How to find your perfect shoes this Spring!

We all dream of finding that perfect shoe,it takes a little bit of effort and energy to find your perfect mate. Here are some tips to finding the shoe that flatters you.It is no secret that the right shoe can make your outfit.

Shoes are the pedestal on which your entire look is built. These simple pointers that will get you on the right road to finding the perfect shoe.

Finding the right fit at the shoe store

1.Try different sizes in the shoe that you like, sizing is not standard you may be a size 8 in one designer and easily be a size 9 in another designer. Most European designers tend to fit smaller than American designers. If ordering online look at the reviews from other shoppers about sizing.

2.Try to shop in the afternoon or the evening, your feet tend to swell during the day so if you shop first thing in the morning you may get a shoe that will not be as comfortable.Try not to shoe shop on very humid days.

3.Walk on an uncarpeted surface, this will give you a better idea on how the shoe will feel on a pavement or hard surface, shoes feel different on a soft plush carpet.

4.Try on both feet, most of us are slightly larger in one foot than the other so make sure both feet feel fine. Some people will quietly switch one of the shoes for a half size bigger which is not the right thing to do.You are better off getting the size that fits and putting a pad in the foot that is loose.

5.Move,wriggle your toes, flex your ankles and make sure you sit and stand. If any part of the shoe rubs or catches on your foot blisters are on their way.

6.Do not fall for the salesperson line”It will stretch out” or “it will be more comfortable when you break it in”.Chances are if they are not comfortable in the store they are not going to be comfortable at the event you are going to wear them to.

7.Not only does a shoe need to fit,it needs to look like it fits,if your toes dangle out of an open toe shoe or your heels slide of the back the shoe may fit but it does not look like it fits. Also make sure you foot does not break the style lines of the shoe.

Pay attention to details

Heels,A medium height flatters most people(2″ to 3″) make sure that shape of the heel compliments your body shape for example if you are petite a thick chunky heel can look heavy so you want a slimmer  heel.

Vamp,This is the top part of the shoe. The most flattering are low V or U shaped ones that show the right amount of toe cleavage(yes that is a thing) are best with dresses and skirts.Avoid wearing high cut vamps with skirts as they can shorten your legs.Think about what you will be wearing the show with most of the time

Toe Shape,a tapered toe provides the most flattering look but stay away from ones that are too pointy as they can distract from your outfit. If you find tapered toes uncomfortable opt for a more oval toe.

Straps,Pay attention to the position and the width of the straps.A wide strap over the instep will draw attention to your feet,a slim T strap elongates your feet and an ankle strap will draw attention to your ankles. So be aware of this specially if you have thick ankles or heavy calves.

Color,Black  works with most colors except for light ones where nude is a better option.Tans and khakis work best with denim. For evening do match the color of your shoe to your outfit or go with a great metallic. If you wear a lot of solids do go for a bit of print and pattern to pep up your look.Monochromatic your thing, then texture is your friend.

Remember a shoe that matches your skin toe will make your legs look longer and goes with every color. Off whites and soft pinks work better on most people instead of a stark white.Yellow and green are the hardest shoe colors for most people to wear unless you are dark skinned and then nothing is off limits.

Trends for Spring 2020

Here are the top trends for this season, some have been around for awhile and others we are seeing for the first time.I would say if you are only buying one shoe this season make it a Loafer.

This is the most versatile shoe of the season you can wear it with a blazer for work, with jeans as a casual statement and pair it with a dress for evening. This borrowed from the boys trend has been around for for awhile and keeps getting stronger so it is a great shoevestment.

Also called a slide the key feature of this shoe is that it has no back. This makes it a great wear at home, driving and pool shoe.It is usually a flat or has a small kitten heel.It works best in the warmer months when you want to dip your toes in the ocean.

Must have shoe of the Summer and go with a tall one only if you have long legs. They are a little hard to get on and off but they do look fabulous.

A Flatform(yes it is a word) is a flat platform a staple in Japan for centuries it is being reinvented this Spring with A Sporty/Casual edge.If you are a shoenista this is a trend for you.

Why limit wearing Jewelry on you body when you can also wear it on your feet.Think of shoes that double up as necklaces, rings and cuffs. This is the must have shoe trend for evening.

Trends for Spring 2019

Neutrals dominate the season with multiple shades of nude, beige and tan. They are the perfect compliment to all the color and print out there.

Fashion is all about opposites so as dressy shoes go nude, sneakers are all about color and print.

Knots,Ropes,Ties and Seashells are all major trends this season.

This season is about 3d trim and embroidery to create visual interest.

Probably the most fun you can have with shoes this season, not the most practical but definitely the most delightful.

How to rock flats this holiday season!

How to rock flats for the holidays!

Comfort and Glamour need not be mutually exclusive when it comes to shoes. We have all seen iconic images of Audrey Hepburn rocking flats but Natalie Portman, Emily Watson and Anne Hathaway all rock flats on the red carpet. Anne Hathaway is the queen of wearing flats on the red carpet and does it all the time, which caused a huge controversy in Cannes when they decided it were not appropriate and banned them.Fortunately they are not banned this holiday season from all your fun, fabulous, events.

There were a lot of comments on my last post about heels, where women said it is hard for them to wear them, they prefer flats but it sometimes makes them feel “dumpy”.By following these five simple things, you can rock flats this holiday and never miss putting on a pair of heels.

Always remember when you are confident, comfortable and cute is when you have the most fun.

1. Find the shoe that flatters your body.

There are two kinds of flats out there for holiday right now.

Beneath the ankle flats such as loafers, ballet flats, mules and sandals.

Above the ankle flats such as low boots, cage flats and booties

Beneath the ankle flats are certainly those that work the best.By revealing the ankle, they show the full length of the leg without “cutting” it. They are the best choice to elongate your figure and are most flattering to all body types. The best way to wear them is always show your ankle which is a sexy body part on all women. So flash some ankle.

Above the ankle flats tend to reduce the length of the leg a bit. So they are great if you are taller 5 feet 5 inches or have long legs.If you have shorter or wider legs, and want to wear an above the ankle flat make sure you balance it with your outfit.

2. Choose styles carefully when shopping.

Pointy toe flats work best with wide leg pants while round toe ballet flats work best with ankle length pant styles that show a little skin. Open toe flats look good with skinny pants and short skirts. Always wear a closed toe flat with a long skirt. When wearing flats with a short dress or skirt make sure they show some toe cleavage. (Yes that is a thing) which is very sexy and elongates your leg. Only wear loafers with a pant. So think about what you are going to wear your flats with when you are buying them.

3. Make sure your flats are stylish, Bright colors, lux fabrics and textures to add some flair to your look. Embrace a fun print or embellished flats. Bedazzled flats look great with cocktail dresses. Velvet, Lace and Metallic flats are big this season. Victorian details like ruffles, buckles and bows are all the rage as well.Stay away from very basic flats if you are wearing them to an event.

4. Choose quality. Sure you can snag a pair flats at a discount store for $9.99. In the case of shoes, you get what you pay for and if you are planning to wear them to events and not just around the house invest in high quality flats. The material and construction are very important. You want these to last more than a couple of wears or seasons. This is very important.

5Make sure your outfit and your flats are in harmony.

Rocking a dress or with your flats? Choose a shorter skirt or dress that falls away from your hips and hits you right above the knee to avoid looking stumpy. You could also cheat a little and rock a kitten heel or sliver of a wedge to give you a little boost.Nude flats will really elongate your legs.

Rocking a pant with your flats? Make sure if you are wearing narrow pants they end above you ankle when wearing them with ballet flats or sandals. When wearing it with an above the ankles flat like a bootie make sure you tuck pant in.When wearing it with a wide leg pant make sure the back of your pant is ¼” above the back of your shoe. Wide leg pants look good with simple pointy toe flats.

Make sure your pants do not drag on the floor. When you buy pants decide if you are going to wear them with heels or flats and hem them accordingly.

You can rock heels this holiday season!

With the holiday season approaching, even the most practical fashionista seeks to abandon comfort for drama upon spying the perfect pair of sky-high stilettos.Holiday parties and heels just go hand in hand. There is something to be said about wearing heels with a great dress. You feel tall and sexy, your booty pops and the dress fits better.(FYI-most dresses are fit on the model while she is wearing a pair of heels) Aching feet inevitable?

Here are some strategies to pull this off in relative comfort.

First…The Fit

Having properly fitting shoes is critical,go shoe shopping at the end of the day, your feet swell so if you shop first thing in the morning you may not get the right fit.Have your feet measured specially the width.Your feet change just like the rest of you.TIPOpen toe shoes give you more wiggle room.

Next…Heel Height

Finding the right heel height is equally important, the pitch of your foot in heels has a lot to do with comfort. Not sure what the right heel height is for you?

Here are two things you can do in the shoe store that will help you make the right decision

1.Stand in your shoes on a hard floor with your knees straight.Raise yourself 1″on your toes;if you can do this comfortably, the shoes are the right height.Start at this height and you can slowly work your way up from there.Kitten Heels are a big trend this season.Block heels are a great starting point as well.

2.Take 10-12 steps in the shoes at your normal walking speed if you wobble the heels are two high. TIP -Opt for a shoe with a platform this will give you the height you want and minimize the pitch at the same time.

Then…Make it your own shoe

Did you know that numerous products exist to customize the fit of your shoes? You can add arch support, cushioning, support the ball of your foot and prevent rubbing at the back of your heel. Most drug stores and beauty supply stores carry these products.TIP-Focus on the areas that are painful at the end of the day.

Here are some products that can help with problem areas

Stretch

A lot of problems occur because you store your heels in a box.Leather contracts when it dries make the shoes tighter when you put them on.Use a device to stretch your shoes. For specially stubborn shoes, keep a stretcher in them so they are always ready.Moisturize your shoes and store them in breathable shoe bags.Did you know the Queen of England has a lady in waiting to break in all her shoes you do not have that privilege but you can always bribe a friend to help.TIP-Treat your most worn shoes to shoe trees, that way they will always be ready for you

Conditioning…Really!

Do Yoga before you put on your heels. Stretch your hamstrings and calves,do leg lifts and ankle turns you will be surprised on how much this helps.Barre and Pilates are best for high heel wearers.Yes, wearing high heels is a sport just like any other so train and warm up.

Strut your stuff…Properly

Be sure to walk correctly in you heels:

1.Walk heel-toe,heel-toe with you head high and shoulders back ,elongate your spine.

2.Take smaller steps if you are bending your knees your steps are too long.Practice turning in your heels using your toes it is more of a pivot.

3.Take breaks,do your best to sit down every 20 minutes or so for at least 7 to 10 minutes.A lot of shoes look great when you sit down as well.TIP-Do not take off your shoes, your feet can swell and make it difficult to put back on.Keep a pair of flats handy to slip on after the event for walking back to your car.

When you get home…Pamper your feet

Thank your feet for supporting you.Soak them in warm water, dry them with a fluffy towel and massage them with a good foot cream.

If you are shopping for heels this season here are the big trends!

Yes it is the trend right now to match your bags and shoes

How to accessorize your body!

Now that you are familiar with your body type and how to dress it.You must also pay attention to how you accessorize it.I have always said that accessories can make your break your outfit. When you pick your accessories it is critical that they work with your outfit but it is also vital that they compliment your body type. Both are equally important.

One of the most common fashion faux pas I see out there is when the outfit and accessories look great but does not frame the woman in quite the right way.I am sure you  sometimes glance at a woman and think “What a great look but  it is not for her”.

Here is what to aim for in creating the perfect look.

Shoes

1.Must make your legs look longer and leaner.

2.Must balance your body shape.

APPLE-you want nothing in the line of vision between your heel and your leg.If you are wearing hose, match it to your shoe.Avoid straps at all costs.Nude is the best color for you or match your pants.Go for a low vamp or an open toe.

PEAR-simple shoes are best because you want to keep attention up top.You also want to balance your hips with a shoe that has substance to it like a wedge or a block heel pump.A skinny high heel can make you look off kilter.

PENCIL-the goal is to add softness,so details like multiple straps, bows and ruffles are a must for you.Ballet flats are your best friend and do not be afraid of high heels. Avoid shoes with a lot of hardware and combat boot are an absolute no no.Chose softer colors like pink, tan and taupe.

HOURGLASS-A curvier body looks better with a curvier shoe.Peep toes and rounded toes are sexy because they echo your curves.Avoid pointy toes at all cost.

STRAWBERRY-Bright colors are key here to move the eye down.Prints are your best friend, but keep the shapes simple.three dimensional details will add interest as well but make sure they are not overwhelming.

Here are  some of the shoes you should consider this season!

Bags

This is one area that most women do not pay attention, they look at a bag on a shelf and a counter but not against their body. You need to try on a bag just as you would a dress or a shoe.Do not believe the myth the “Bigger your bag looks, the smaller your booty looks next to it”

APPLE-create balance by making sure your bag is no wider than the widest part of your body. Avoid straps that hang the bag against your mid section.A structured tote with a short handle works best.No tiny bags for you.

PEAR-make sure the bag sits more on the upper half of your body.A short handled bag that sits comfortably under your arm in a bright color can work well to balance your lower body.An oversize clutch carried above your waist is a must for evening.

PENCIL-handbags that sit at the natural waist add a slight curve to your body.Chose soft hobo’s and satchels ,avoid messenger bags at all costs.

HOURGLASS-you can carry any handbag your heart desires but structured boxy bags and totes can give you the best bang for your buck.

STRAWBERRY-Avoid shoulder bags and messenger bags, make sure your straps are not too wide or too long.A cross body that sits against your lower half can work well.

Here are some of the bags you should consider this season!

Belts

The Best Belts for your body shape are the ones that enhance and flatter them.It is also important to wear the belt at the right position on your body.
APPLE-this is the hardest body shape for belts.Soft knit belts or chord belts simply tied to the side create the illusion of a waist with out emphasizing it.Never wear a belt across your mid section and stay with colors that match your outfit.

PEAR-mid width belts are the best;avoid anything skinny or very wide.Stay in the same color family as your outfit and wear it slightly lower on your waist.

PENCIL-avoid anything too wide, wear it at your true waistband create a soft blouson effect by pulling at the fabric on top. This gives he effect of soft curves that is very flattering.

HOURGLASS-your body is built for belts and you should be wearing them almost all the time. They should always be worn at the middle of your waist and the smallest point and dark colors flatter you best.

STRAWBERRY-mid width to narrower belts work best for you.Make sure to wear it lower lower on your waist or at the top of your hip.Wear a light color belt with a darker dress or top and create fullness below the belt.
