How to find your perfect shoes this Spring!

We all dream of finding that perfect shoe,it takes a little bit of effort and energy to find your perfect mate. Here are some tips to finding the shoe that flatters you.It is no secret that the right shoe can make your outfit.

Shoes are the pedestal on which your entire look is built. These simple pointers that will get you on the right road to finding the perfect shoe.

Finding the right fit at the shoe store

1.Try different sizes in the shoe that you like, sizing is not standard you may be a size 8 in one designer and easily be a size 9 in another designer. Most European designers tend to fit smaller than American designers. If ordering online look at the reviews from other shoppers about sizing.

2.Try to shop in the afternoon or the evening, your feet tend to swell during the day so if you shop first thing in the morning you may get a shoe that will not be as comfortable.Try not to shoe shop on very humid days.

3.Walk on an uncarpeted surface, this will give you a better idea on how the shoe will feel on a pavement or hard surface, shoes feel different on a soft plush carpet.

4.Try on both feet, most of us are slightly larger in one foot than the other so make sure both feet feel fine. Some people will quietly switch one of the shoes for a half size bigger which is not the right thing to do.You are better off getting the size that fits and putting a pad in the foot that is loose.

5.Move,wriggle your toes, flex your ankles and make sure you sit and stand. If any part of the shoe rubs or catches on your foot blisters are on their way.

6.Do not fall for the salesperson line”It will stretch out” or “it will be more comfortable when you break it in”.Chances are if they are not comfortable in the store they are not going to be comfortable at the event you are going to wear them to.

7.Not only does a shoe need to fit,it needs to look like it fits,if your toes dangle out of an open toe shoe or your heels slide of the back the shoe may fit but it does not look like it fits. Also make sure you foot does not break the style lines of the shoe.

Pay attention to details

Heels,A medium height flatters most people(2″ to 3″) make sure that shape of the heel compliments your body shape for example if you are petite a thick chunky heel can look heavy so you want a slimmer  heel.

Vamp,This is the top part of the shoe. The most flattering are low V or U shaped ones that show the right amount of toe cleavage(yes that is a thing) are best with dresses and skirts.Avoid wearing high cut vamps with skirts as they can shorten your legs.Think about what you will be wearing the show with most of the time

Toe Shape,a tapered toe provides the most flattering look but stay away from ones that are too pointy as they can distract from your outfit. If you find tapered toes uncomfortable opt for a more oval toe.

Straps,Pay attention to the position and the width of the straps.A wide strap over the instep will draw attention to your feet,a slim T strap elongates your feet and an ankle strap will draw attention to your ankles. So be aware of this specially if you have thick ankles or heavy calves.

Color,Black  works with most colors except for light ones where nude is a better option.Tans and khakis work best with denim. For evening do match the color of your shoe to your outfit or go with a great metallic. If you wear a lot of solids do go for a bit of print and pattern to pep up your look.Monochromatic your thing, then texture is your friend.

Remember a shoe that matches your skin toe will make your legs look longer and goes with every color. Off whites and soft pinks work better on most people instead of a stark white.Yellow and green are the hardest shoe colors for most people to wear unless you are dark skinned and then nothing is off limits.

Trends for Spring 2019

Neutrals dominate the season with multiple shades of nude, beige and tan. They are the perfect compliment to all the color and print out there.

Fashion is all about opposites so as dressy shoes go nude, sneakers are all about color and print.

Knots,Ropes,Ties and Seashells are all major trends this season.

This season is about 3d trim and embroidery to create visual interest.

Probably the most fun you can have with shoes this season, not the most practical but definitely the most delightful.

So with a little effort and energy you too can be like Cinderella and find the perfect shoe

Spring Prints are Here!

After much anticipation the stores in NYC are full of the latest and greatest prints for Spring 19.Even though Spring is actually a few days away, it has arrived in windows of the city. This is a print heavy season but “What are the key trends you should be rocking”?

Always classic and chic, black and white prints are the best gateway to Spring.Dots are leading the trend followed by simple florals and stripes. You can wear this right now mixing it with black and later in the season by mixing it with red, pink and yellow which are key colors.

Florals are always a key trend but this seasons must have are the 1950’s inspired large scale flowers that have their inspiration in home.Do rock them from head to toe for a bold look or just pick a jacket or a pant and pair it with navy, khaki or red.

Animal prints are now a mainstay for Spring thanks to the lovers who refuse to give it up.The prints tend to be lighter, brighter and with a little dash of color. Not quite what nature intended but a great alternative to flowers. If you are feeling feisty by all means work some head to toe animal, other wise tame it with a neutral like white, navy or tan.

I love this trend it looks like someone pieced together a bunch of scarves to create a print to delight your senses. If you are buying a dress this season this is the trend to go with. The best thing is you can dial this up by pairing it with pop color shoes and bags or refine it with nude accents.

Yes,Tie Dye is back in a big way not the hippie 60’s version but a sophisticated luxurious grown up one. This is going to be a big print for Summer as it just says beach, vacation and chill. It looks best when mixed with denim and white.

If you missed my blog post about the must have colors for Spring, here is a quick refresh http://sunilr.com/blog/must-wear-colors-for-spring-19/

My advice is to always add some fresh print to your wardrobe each season it is the most cost effective way to give it some zing.If you are not a print person try a scarf or a bag it will surprise you.

Must wear colors for Spring 19!

After pouring over many fashion magazines, attending several trend seminars, visiting many stores in NYC and talking to my friends in the fashion business I am able to share what the key colors for Spring 2019 are and how to wear them. This seasons colors are all about joy and being uplifted.Spring is about being confident in the colors you wear and also about choosing  unexpected combinations.

We are seeing this trio of color becoming the base for any great Spring wardrobe. The seasons white is bright leaning towards optic, the black is bold and rich and the red is very intense.Black and White have always been the backbone of a Spring/Summer wardrobe and now Red joins it.If you only wear these 3 colors this season you will have a very classic and chic wardrobe, that can take you right thru the end of the year because a lot of the Fall 2019 show in NYC featured these 3 colors in a big way. Most of the store windows in the city are featuring combinations of these 3 colors right now because they are the most wearable at this time of year.

I would say wear 2 or 3  these colors combined  right now and as we head into the warmer weather go all red or all white. If you are buying any investment pieces this season make sure they are in this color trio as you are going to get your value by wearing them all the time.White shoes are going to be a key trend this season but if you buy ones that have a touch of black or red you will have more opportunities to sport them.

Neutrals in shades of beige are a huge trend this season mainly due to the influence of Meghan Markle. For a super sophisticated look go for monochromatic head to toe beige or mix it up with black, red and white.Do invest in a great pair of shoes and a bag in this color as it will go with everything you own. Some shades of beige can wash you out if you have a lighter skin tone,so it that case look for warmer shades like sand or khaki that have more brown in them. This is a big color for outerwear so if you are buying a new coat do gravitate towards this color family.

These 4 colors are your neutrals and form the foundation of your wardrobe along with Navy and Denim which are now a staples for Spring and Summer. Here are the accents.

Pink is always a key color for Spring this season it all about being bold and beautiful.Pantone listed Pink Peacock as one of the top ten colors and we are seeing this as that pop to jolt your wardrobe into joy.Mix it with white, navy and khaki for a cool chic vibe or pair it with red for that fashionista feeling.Creat color for your spring sweaters and tanks.

Magazines,Celebs and fashionistas worldwide are in love with this color.Pantone mentioned Aspen Gold as a top color because it brightens our day and stimulates feelings of joy and good cheer. As much as we love Yellow and all the wonderful vibes it brings it is a hard color to wear for most skin tones. It does look better with a tan so you might want to save it for later in the season.I have to say it looks amazing when mixed with navy and white. If head to toe yellow is not your thing try a yellow shoe with jeans and a white shirt it will really give some zing to your step.

If you really want to make an on trend statement this Spring,Yellow is the way to go.

We usually associate orange with Fall but this season designers have made it a must have for Summer.Pantone named Fiesta as a top ten color for Spring.Orange is all about energy, passion and excitement after a long dark dull winter we seek those things.Mix it with pink for that over the top exuberance or pair it with navy, denim and khaki for a little more restrained joy.

This bright blue was all over the Couture shows because of how it glistens and glows,Pantone listed Princess Blue as an important choice to provide that boost to your wardrobe.A great color for a light weight sweater or cardigan it mixes well with white, khaki and black.

So take the time this season to break from the basics and have some fun with color.
